I'm a New Scout.... What Do I Do Now?

Complete a Joining Packet
Not all the paperwork is due back in a week, but don't take too long.
Applications cannot be processed without Social Security and other information.
Fill out the temporary health form on the back of the joining form. The Class 1 - Class 2 Health form is due before summer camp.
Read the Parent-Scout Orientation booklet in your packet. It tells just about everything you need to know about our Troop.

Come to Monday Meetings
Bring your Scout Handbook and your Troop Notebook (this will be presented after a few weeks) to each meeting.
Think about which Patrol you might like to be in and who you might like to be buddies with. You will be asked for your opinion before we place you.
Start getting your Scout uniform together and wear it with pride. We'll need to take off your tri-colors and your old Pack numbers and Patrol patches. Add Troop 225's numbers. Keep updating your uniform as you earn new things to add. Buy your merit badge sash WAY too big because you'll outgrow it before you're an Eagle if you don't. Read our helpful uniform flier HERE.

Work On Advancement
Your Scoutmaster Team and Patrol Coaches will be there to support your advancement, but you've got to decide what to work on and ask for it to be signed off when you've mastered the skill. We can sign off a lot of requirements on campouts, but it's your responsibility to bring your book so that you can figure out what requirements you need to work on, and then do it!
Begin working on Merit Badges. This is done mostly on your own. You can read more about it on the Merit Badge Information page.

Use the Web
Now that you're on the secret side of our Web, come frequently! Read the announcements on the Troop Home Page at least a couple of times a week.
Use the Troop Web Calendar. Events are listed there and it is updated as often as necessary to keep it current.
Get on the email group and check your email daily.

Start Collecting Camping Gear
Don't go crazy...... You don't need a lot of very expensive gear to participate in our campouts. Instruction will be given at Monday meetings to help you.
Basically all you need to get started is a good sleeping bag, flashlight, rain gear, and your personal clothing and toilet articles (bar soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, etc.)

Parent Training
Parents.... to go on Troop 225 overnight adventures with the Troop, you need to complete a couple of basic types of training. Do the three following things:
Youth Protection Training. Take this at most any Roundtable (the first Thursday of each month). It can also be completed online. Find more information and links on the Red-Tailed Hawk website.
Complete the background check form and provide a copy of your current drivers' license. This is a requirement of our sponsor for all personnel that work directly with youth.
Complete Troop 225's Fast Start Training. You can do Fast Start online also, but we require Troop 225's version because we add discussion about 225's methods and vision for our boys.
Also, be sure to return the driving form (from the joining packet) if you plan to drive on the outings we attend. This is even for a day event.

Live the Scout Oath and Scout Law
